A Kitchen That Blends Minimalism and Warmth
This kitchen was designed for a family with deep cultural roots—where the wife, born in Japan, has a cherished collection of handcrafted pottery and dishware made by her aunt who currently lives and works in Japan.
Inspired by Japanese minimalism, the design prioritizes openness, natural light, and effortless flow. What was once a closed-off space has been transformed into an inviting, functional hub for a family of four who loves to entertain. Thoughtful storage solutions, including a hidden appliance garage and a concealed coffee nook, ensure a clutter-free aesthetic without sacrificing convenience.
What makes it modern
Every detail of this kitchen was designed with intentionality and efficiency in mind. Smart storage systems maintain a clean, streamlined appearance, while integrated appliances enhance the seamless look. The decision to forgo upper cabinets creates an expansive feel, allowing light to flow freely. Heat resistant Dekton countertops ensure longevity, while black accents introduce a refined, modern contrast.

A dramatic Yet Modern Kitchen in the Los Gatos Hills
The Vision
Perched in the hills of Los Gatos, this custom kitchen is a masterful blend of historical inspiration and contemporary refinement. Originally built in 1974, the home was reimagined for a set designer with a deeply artistic eye—one drawn to the ornate elegance of the Victorian era. The result? A moody, atmospheric space that embraces rich, saturated hues while maintaining a distinctly modern sensibility.Soaring, pitched ceilings with exposed beams and strategically placed skylights bathe the kitchen in natural light, accentuating the depth of its palette. Deep green cabinetry provides a striking contrast to the warmth of walnut countertops, creating a space that feels both dramatic and welcoming. Designed with both artistry and function in mind, this kitchen stands as the heart of the home—a place where bold design meets everyday practicality.
While rooted in classic influences, the kitchen’s modern identity is unmistakable. Clean lines, slim Shaker-style cabinetry, and bold color contrasts infuse the space with a contemporary edge. Seamless, built-in appliances maintain a streamlined aesthetic, while an expansive island and sculptural lighting lend a sense of openness and sophistication.
